It seems that people are beginning to post about how Leopard is going to kill alot of apps that do the same things that the new features do. DUH! This happens with every upgrade of every OS. Leopard is no different. Sure, you can say that, “Apple copied such and such an app,” but you can pretty much find an app to do just about anything in OS X already. And its not like the folks in Redmond, who seem to screw up technically impair everything idea they touch. Apple is actually making these things better. I know it sucks that these great apps are now obsolete, but there are plenty of other things that need to be fixed and redone and… invented.

Mac is teh pimp, and he just bought teh hos.

Apple has declared “All your base are belong to us.” Live to fight another day guys…

Aaaaannndddd…..  no iphone, no ipod, no itablet, no metal nano, NOTHING!

Good.

WWDC is a show for the developers, and so Apple focused on making it one.  Steve unveiled the new Mac Pro, the system many developers and high-end Mac Pros (no pun intended) have been waiting for.  Also, Apple is giving them their dev DVD’s of Leopard.

Good.  Now we can really go nuts when we start seeing those “One more thing” invitations.

Let the rumor mill churn on.  (muffled screams:  please stop with rumors oh my god please!)

“The creative minds over at CuteCircuit have developed yet another wearable, but this interactive wedding attire gives the bride and groom a little something extra to look forward to. The “Kiss Me!” gown and suit was fabricated specifically for a Swedish couple from Indian silks of various colors, and wired up with “smart textile” technology (as seen in the Secret Message Glove) that transmits pre-written messages when the articles make contact. Although the scene was far from traditional, it mattered not to the Swedish lovebirds, and when the couple kissed after their endearing professions, the textiles sent secret messages to each of them that could only be discovered on the tiny displays hidden in not-so-public locations. To maintain whatever amount of practicality these threads should have after the ceremony, the bride’s train is removable for converting into a skirt, and the groom’s jacket becomes a somewhat threatening ninja outfit. The “Kiss Me!” attire may not fit into everyone’s ideal wedding, but we’ll admit this is definitely more acceptable than having Kip Dynamite belt out “I love technology” to celebrate a union.”

Engadget Post

Oh wow who the heck would spend money on this stuff? Why not just put paper messages in those not so public places???? !

p.s. Is that the biggest bubble ever in that picture? Or is it something else…  ?

Urgent:

“If you bought a 15 inch MacBook Pro between February 2006 through May 2006 you want to read this Apple KB article now. It tells you how to identify whether or not your battery is eligible for the ‘battery exchange program,’ (doesn’t that sound much better than ‘World Wide Recall?’). To quote Apple, ‘We recently discovered that some 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries supplied to Apple do not meet our high standards for battery performance. To give our users the best experience possible, we will replace these batteries for customers free of charge.’ ” –TUAW Post

Unfortunately, my 15-inch MBP has one of those batteries listed for recall. Fortunately, I don’t live far from the Apple Store in the King of Prussia Mall.

I can’t really get used to wireless mice…

All of the ones I have tried are jumpy, and with some of OS X’s buttons not being so gigantic, I get frustrated (yeah, I get frustrated over that–but I like precision :) ). Bluetooth wireless mice are definitely the best of the wireless bunch, but those little bumps and irregularities are still there. Seriously, I’d rather use my trackpad than any wireless mouse (actually, I’ve gotten pretty good with my trackpad). I don’t really see what all the hooplah about wireless mice is all about… maybe if you like to sit far from your screen, ok, but other than that, why (other than having a perfectly clean and utopian desk) do people sacrifice the precision of a wired mouse?

Or could it be that so many companies are pushing wireless mice since they are more expensive… and the average joe doesn’t know any better (says: “Hey look! Wireless. Wow. I must be so cool and tech savvy because I’m getting a wireless mouse.”)? Or am I just missing some awesome thing that is right out in the open that makes wireless mice the answer even to the question “Why are we here?”

Hmm?

Yeah.

There is that thing about Betas where they’re sometimes not all that stable… yeah.

So… my Macbook Pro crashed pretty much stopped working yesterday (yeah it was Shapeshifter). All the programs and functions in OS X (Safari, System Prefs, and simple stuff like mounting a .dmg) stopped working. Sure, Firefox and Flock still worked, but what’s the fun in an overpriced machine that just navigates the internet (oops, sorry Nokia)? The only way I could get anything to work is when the “____ has suddenly closed but OS X is not affected” message comes up, I had to click Reopen, and then when it closed again and displayed the Report to Apple or Try Again message, I had to click Try Again (well that was really my only choice… reporting to Apple crashed too). I have no idea why this was the only way I could get things like Installer and System Prefs to work, but it was just enough to allow me to turn off Shapeshifter. After Shapeshifter turned off, OS X actually reset itself, returning all the original programs to the Dock and resetting the wallpaper and settings like the use of tabs in Safari. I was actually really happy, even though I had to reset all my prefs… I’m on vacation in Virginia Beach and am about a 6.5 hour drive away from my install disks (in Pennsylvania).

Stubborn me, I’ll never stop downloading those oh so sweet, oh so free Betas.

Finally.

27Jul06

Jeez that was a long wait.

TUAW’s David Chartier:

“In a post aptly titled ‘At Long Last!’, Unsanity announced a beta of a Universal version of ShapeShifter, their UI haxie for skinning Mac OS X. As the post states, your Intel Mac can finally “get its spank on” (what on Earth are those guys at Unsanity selling??). Obviously, as their post states, this is a beta so things could very well go wrong with it. On the upside this Universal version should work just fine with any guiKit (skin) that you throw at it.”

Nicely done David.

And thank god that wait is over. (It’s Siro time for me!)

From these results, it doesnt look like the ipod will have any serious competition from phones for awhile…  now about those Zune rumors

“As regards cell phones, we don’t think that the phones that are available today make the best music players. We think the iPod is. But over time, that is likely to change. And we’re not sitting around doing nothing.”

Thats the most we’re gonna get out of Apple.

I recently saw a question in the comments section of a post at TUAW…

“I am deciding whether or not to buy a macbook or a macbook pro.
I’ll be using it for writing my PhD…thinking about screen size etc………and whether I’ll get over the glossy screen…..I need some help deciding…..then reading all the stories about heat etc…..should I wait and see what else comes out??
Appreciate some feedback
Jacqui”

Well, I think I have the appropriate response:

Jacqui, if you absolutely need your laptop now, I’d go with a Macbook Pro over a Macbook. The screen size makes all the difference… Also, the graphics are much better on the Pro (well duh, but it’s another reason to go Pro). If you have time to wait, I’d hold off and see the new case designs that Apple rolls out when the Macbook/Pro line gets hit with the new Core 2 Duo Processor. They might/might not help with the heat problems (if they don’t, you still get a better processor!).

Thats just my response… any objections?
